CINCINNATI, OH, USA - No.1 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci made a second set comeback on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open.

After taking the first set, Errani and Vinci found themselves in a 4-0 second set hole against Daniela Hantuchova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. But they rallied from there to pull out a 6-3, 7-5 win - their 11th straight dating back to their Wimbledon title run and their 100th on hardcourts as a duo.

The Italians were especially dominant on their opponents' second serve in this one, winning 13 of 15 such points. Next up for them are sixth-seeded Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, whom they beat in the final at the All-England Club.

Also reaching the quarterfinals were Kimiko Date-Krumm and Andrea Hlavackova by virtue of a 6-4, 0-6, 10-6 upset victory over No.3 seeds Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik.

Among the first round winners were fifth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina. The Russians had the most dominant scoreline of the day over Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska, 6-1, 6-1, in 46 minutes.

Makarova and Vesnina saved all five break points they faced on their own serve, broke serve five times and were 12 out of 14 on second serve returns.
