California resident Gibbs made her main draw debut at Flushing Meadows as an amateur at last year's staging, but will play it for the first time as a professional this year a few months after successfully defending her NCAA singles championship for Stanford. She calls the US Open her favorite event.
"The Bank Of The West Classic is amazing, because it's right at home, but the US Open takes the cake," Gibbs said. "It's the Super Bowl of tennis. It has an amazing atmosphere and it's an amazing place to be an American."
Other Americans receiving wildcards were former Top 50 player Vania King, current Top 100 player Alison Riske, Shelby Rogers, Maria Sanchez and Sachia Vickery, who earned the wildcard by winning the USTA Girls' 18s National Championships last week.
