GUANGZHOU, China - Jelena Jankovic beat Francesca Schiavone in an absolute epic at the Guangzhou International Women's Open on Wednesday to not only reach the quarterfinals of the International event, but also to become just the third active player to reach 600 career match wins.

For two hours and 57 grueling minutes the two veterans slugged it out on center court in Guangzhou, and it was a dead heat at one set apiece, 2-all in the third - but the No.4-seeded Jankovic snuck out a break for 3-2 and it was the last break of the match, as the two went into a holding pattern from there until the Serb finally put the Italian away to a standing ovation from the crowd, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

With the win, Jankovic becomes the third active player to reach 600 career match wins:
