MATCH POINTS

Simona Halep has won six of her eight previous meetings with Sloane Stephens, including each of the last five. The American won in Hobart and at the Australian Open in 2013 but has lost each match since.

The French Open meeting between the pair earlier this year was the only previous match to have gone to three sets.

Sloane Stephens has one title to her name in 2018, having taken the spoils in Miami. Simona Halep has won two events this year, taking the French Open, against Stephens, as well as the Shenzhen title.

Sunday's match will be the fourth Rogers Cup final in six years to feature a Romanian - Sorana Cirstea having lost to Serena Williams in 2013 before Simona Halep went down to Belinda Bencic two years later and beat Madison Keys in 2016.

Sunday's match will be the fifth Rogers Cup final in eight years to feature an American - Serena Williams having taken the crown in 2011 and 2013 before Venus Williams lost in 2014 and Madison Keys did likewise two years later.

Only two of the last 16 Rogers Cup finals have gone to three sets.

Sloane Stephens is yet to drop a set at this year's tournament, while Simona Halep was taken the distance by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round two.
