Serena Williams is set to make her official return to tennis at next week's US Fed Cup tie against the Netherlands, but before heading to Asheville, North Carolina, the former World No.1 met up with her fellow Kryptonians to take on a different sort of physical challenge in a Spartan Race.

Williams shared her efforts on social media alongside husband Alexis Ohanian and new hitting partner Jarmere Jenkins, who posted a team photo on his Instagram.

Starting her season at an exo in Abu Dhabi against reigning Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko, Serena hasn't been on court for an official match since winning a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open.

Since marrying and giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia, the 36-year-old has slowly rolled out a comeback plan that includes a Madison Square Garden Tie Break Tens exhibition against sister Venus in between Fed Cup and the BNP Paribas Open, the site of her initial career breakthrough back in 1999.
