SINGAPORE - Serena Williams, a 20-time Grand Slam champion and the World No.1 for more than two years running, has become the first player to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, where the Top 8 players in the world will battle for a $7 million prize purse.

Her qualification is historic because it's the earliest in a season a player has qualified for the WTA Finals since the WTA's crown jewel event moved to the current eight-woman format back in 2003.
