STUTTGART, Germany - Maria Sharapova has signed a three-year deal to become Porsche's first ever brand ambassador.
Porsche has chosen World No.2 Sharapova to head up its new global communications campaign, which will begin at this week's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. The Russian is no stranger to the German sports car manufacturer, having taken home one of their 911 Carrera S Cabriolets after winning last year's tournament.
"Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete. She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power," Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller said at Monday's press conference. "These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars.
"Maria is the perfect choice. Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche. She is also highly respected around the world and enjoys an outstanding reputation."
Sharapova, who already has sponsorships deals in place with Nike, Cole Haan, Evian, Tag Heuer and Samsung, was similarly delighted to join the Porsche team. "This is a really special day for me. I have had the privilege to be associated with some of the best brands in the world, but now to be partners with Porsche, is such an amazing honor," she said.
