BEIJING, China - When No.2 seed Simona Halep avenged her Roland Garros loss to Jelena Ostapenko, she knew the victory had earned her more than just a spot in the China Open final.

With the victory, the Romanian would officially be the new WTA World No.1 player when rankings are released on Monday.
