LONDON, UK - CoCo Vandeweghe has withdrawn from the Wimbledon doubles competition after sustaining an ankle injury in her singles match against Katerina Siniakova.

The American's coach Pat Cash confirmed the news on social media, posting a photograph of her with her right leg encased in a surgical boot.

"Horrible luck this year...but will recover and be ready for US Open series!" he wrote.

The World No.16 sustained the injury in her 6-7(3), 6-3, 8-6 first-round loss to the Czech, and later posted a picture of her swollen ankle on social media.

Vandeweghe has reached the second week of Wimbledon in the singles competition every year for the last three years.

She was due to partner Australia's Ashleigh Barty in doubles.

The pair are replaced in the draw by Vania King and Katarina Srebotnik, who become the new seventeenth seeds.
