Serena Williams and Li Na, the WTA Nos.1 and 2, have been placed among seven athletes on the shortlist for Time Magazine's annual "100 Most Influential People in the World" list. They are the only tennis players, male or female, to be nominated, and two of only three female athletes in the category.
Last year, Li was one of only four athletes to make the prestigious final list, along with LeBron James (basketball), Lindsey Vonn (alpine skiing) and Mario Ballotelli (soccer). She was also the only athlete among seven portraits to grace the cover of the magazine, along with girls' rights advocate Malala Yousafzai, musician Jay Z, actress Jennifer Lawrence, politician Rand Paul, inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk and Bollywood star Aamir Kahn.
Serena Williams was also named to the list in 2010.
Although the editors of Time will ultimately choose the "Time 100," the publication wants its readers to have say, as well. You can vote for Li and Serena among 150 other influential candidates by clicking here. The winner of the reader poll will be announced on April 23.
