WTA insiders knew how well Daria Kasatkina could play on clay; in Charleston, she proved it.

In her second appearance at the historic Volvo Car Open, the Russian teenager overcame a tricky path that included reigning Olympic champion Monica Puig, good friend Daria Gavrilova, and future Stuttgart champion Laura Siegemund to reach her first WTA final.

Across the net was fellow former junior Grand Slam champion, Jelena Ostapenko. Outmaneuvering the big-hitting Latvian, Kasatkina conquered to capture the title in Charleston.

"It was quite comfortable for me today," Kasatkina said. "I was playing just with my feelings. I go back, spin the ball, running, everything, and thank God she was missing," she told WTA Insider in her Champions corner interview.

Kasatkina returned to the Top 30 after her wild week on the green clay, and within a few spots of her career-high ranking, Daria Kasatkina is your WTA Breakthrough Player of the Month!
