Every week there's a lot happening on the WTA - on the court, off the court, by the numbers, even a few tweets... catch up on it all in this week's WTA Diary.
At the end of 2013, everything Simona Halep touched seemed to turn to gold. Or should that be silver? However, she came back down to earth with a bump on Sunday as she lost her first match of the new season, falling to Madison Keys in straight sets in Sydney.
And she's not been the only surprise casualty in Sydney, with Brisbane semifinalist Jelena Jankovic crashing out to Ekaterina Makarova. Down in Tasmania, Samantha Stosur very nearly suffered the same fate, requiring a third set tie-break to see off qualifier Madison Brengle.
Talking of Sam, here are her thoughts on her well-documented struggles on home soil.
In The Wars
The new season may be just a week old, but the WTA is already resembling the walking wounded. Injury or illness struck down Caroline Wozniacki, Ashleigh Barty and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Brisbane, while this week has already seen Laura Robson retire from her opening round match in Hobart and the withdrawals of Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens.
As far as dream doubles line-ups go, it doesn't get much better than Serena Williams and Roger Federer. And according to Serena, this dream so nearly became reality.
"Honestly I was going to ask Roger because I saw he was playing doubles [in Brisbane]," she said. "But then Venus was like, 'Let's play doubles,' and I was like, 'Okay.' I can't play three events and I still rather play doubles than mixed, even though I don't have the mixed title. Have to figure out the best way to win Australia and the French Open in mixed. I've got to figure out how to do it."
Oh, Serena, what could have been?

One To Watch
Big things are expected of the Jovana Jaksic, who is the latest talent to emerge from Serbian tennis' production line. She may have talent to burn, but the Diary's not too sure about her choice of eyewear.
