NANJING, China - Zhang Shuai continued her fine run of form with a straight set win over Julia Glushko in the second round of the Nanjing Ladies Open.

Since the end of the US Open, Zhang has really come into her own, picking up the title Guangzhou and reaching the final of the WTA 125K Series event in Ningbo. These performances have catapulted her into the Top 100 and judging by her results in Nanjing she is showing no sign of slowing down.

After dispatching Nicha Lertpitaksinchai for the loss of three games in the first round, the No.3 seed was equally efficient against Glusho on Wednesday, wrapping up a 62 62 victory after exactly an hour.

"I'm satisfied with my performance today," Zhang said. "Everything went very well and I'm happy with the result because Julia is a great player and has been doing well recently."

Zhang's quick-fire win saw her avoid the downpour that washed out the rest of the afternoon schedule. Also managing to get on and off court before the weather intervened was her next opponent Zheng Saisai, who defeated Alla Kudryavtseva, 63 61.

The two have met twice in the past few months, with Zheng coming out on top in tight encounters in Suzhou and on the ITF Circuit in Sanya.

"My opponent in the next match is Saisai Zheng, I met her twice this year but have not won yet, so I hope I can beat her this time! I will try to make some changes during this match and I'm looking forward to it," Zhang added.

The only other players to secure quarterfinal spots were Anna Schmiedlova, who needed just 44 minutes to defeat Irina-Camelia Begu, 60 60, and Anna-Lena Friedsam, a 64 64 winner over Ajla Tomljanovic. No.2 seed Yanina Wickmayer, meanwhile, was left stranded one game from victory by the rain, leading 62 52 against Wang Yafan.
