BAD GASTEIN, Austria - When top seed Mona Barthel arrived for the NÜRNBERGER Gastein Ladies, her first question after checking in was, 'where can I buy some organic food?'

To her great surprise, the German did not even have to leave the comfort of her hotel. "I was absolutely amazed at the quality and ranger that was on offer," Barthel said of the range of food available at the players' hotel, the Europäischer Hof. "It is very important for me to eat well and in Bad Gastein it's the best I've experienced on tour.

Despite falling early in her title quest, the bevy of fresh, organic food left a lasting impression on Barthel. "It's really a great venue and I had such a good experience. I can't wait to come back!"

Having already collaborated with the Salzburg agricultural marketing association, this year tournament director Sandra Reichel has gone a step further in her commitment to providing players and fans with an unrivalled food selection.

The Gastein Ladies is now the first WTA event to be officially recognized for its organic excellence, after Bio Austria, the country's organic farmers' association, which has also collaborated with the Salzburg Marathon, awarded it a 'Biozertifizieren'.

"Thanks to the certificate, the Gastein Ladies is helping to further promote healthy eating and the region's farmer's fresh, organic and tasty produce!" Austrian Minister for Agniculture Dr. Josef Schwaiger said. "A balanced diet also has a direct effect on athletic performance and we are sure the players appreciate the selection on offer and how it benefits their tennis."
