Each year the Women's Sports Foundation recognizes individual and team sportswomen whose performances over a 12-month time span have been exceptional. The consideration period for the awards this year stretched from August 1, 2008 to July 31, 2009. Former Sportswoman of the Year recipients from the tennis world are Tracy Austin (1980), Chris Evert (1981), Martina Navratilova (1982, 1983, 1984), Steffi Graf (1989) and the Williams sisters (as a team, in 2000).

Williams, who has had a stellar year so far - both on the courts and on the awards circuit - looks to add another trophy to her 2009 collection. Not only has she picked up the singles titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, she also took home the 2009 ESPY Award for Best Female Tennis Player.

Black and Huber, who have shared the No.1 doubles slot since the 2007 year-end rankings were compiled, have won four doubles titles on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour during the award-qualifying year, including back-to-back wins in Paris and Dubai - and not the mention the U.S. Open doubles title in 2008.

Fans can vote for Sportswoman of the Year until midnight on August 9 here. The winners will be notified on August 14, and on October 13 they will be honored and presented with their awards at the Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City. The event is also a black tie fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting grants, educational and advocacy-related programming.

The Women's Sports Foundation was founded in 1974 by tennis legend and Tour founder Billie Jean King. The Foundation's stated mission is to "advance the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity."
