A combined WTA and ATP tournament, it is a designated 'Premier Mandatory', denoting it as one of the four most prestigious events on the calendar. It occurs in March just before the Sony Ericsson Open. Caroline Wozniacki picked up her 14th career title at Indian Wells in 2011.
