The Internazionali BNL d'Italia is a Premier clay court tournament that takes place in the lead-up to the French Open. A joint men's and women's event, it's held at the Foro Italico and promises scintillating tennis in the beautiful Italian capital.

The 2011 winner was Maria Sharapova, who won the biggest clay court title of her career by storming past Samantha Stosur in the final. Chris Evert has the tournament record with five titles.
