In the first match of the day to finish, Ana Ivanovic defeated Eleni Daniilidou, 63 60.

Over on Court 2, Serena Williams was taking on tenacious young Romanian player Simona Halep.

Serena Williams lost the first set but roared back to beat Simona Halep in three, 36 62 61.

Japanese qualifier Misaki Doi continued her surprise run with a 63 61 win over Zheng Jie.

Maria Kirilenko edged Tamarine Tanasugarn, 75 75, to set up a clash with Serena Williams.

Serbia's Ana Ivanovic and Germany's Andrea Petkovic won their first round doubles match.

Aga Radwanska led 5-3 second set and 4-1 third set but fell to Petra Cetkovksa, 36 76(5) 64.

Li Na looked on as she and Sabine Lisicki went the distance under the roof of Centre Court.

Sabine Lisicki dropped to the ground after pulling off a 36 64 86 upset over No.3 seed Li Na.

Sabine Lisicki cried tears of joy at her chair after pulling off the biggest shock of the week.
