Victoria Azarenka kicked off a day full of fourth round matches by beating Nadia Petrova, 62 62.

Petra Kvitova wasted no time in beating Yanina Wickmayer for a spot in the quarterfinals, 60 62.

Petra Cetkovska fixed her strings during a straight set loss to German wildcard Sabine Lisicki.

Serena Williams fought off four match points but succumbed to Marion Bartoli on the fifth, 63 76(6).

Venus Williams looked out of sorts as she took on Tsvetana Pironkova for the second year in a row.

Tsvetana Pironkova beat Venus Williams for the third time in a Grand Slam, the fifth ever to do so.

Tsvetana Pironkova joined Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters.

Victoria Azarenka hit the practice courts later in the day to prepare for the quarterfinal round.

Caroline Wozniacki was looking to reach her first Wimbledon quarterfinal, but it was not to be.

Dominika Cibulkova fired 44 winners, 31 off the forehand, to stun Caroline Wozniacki, 16 76(5) 75.
