Alizé Cornet cruised to a victory over Mariana Duque-Mariño in the first round of the XXV Italiacom Open on Monday.

Sara Errani had plenty of success in Palermo previously, with a title in 2008 and runner-up showing in 2009.

Second-seeded Roberta Vinci rolled in her opener, but was upset by Laura Robson in the second round.

Alexandra Cadantu's triumph over Alizé Cornet lasted three hours, 17 minutes - 2012's longest main draw match so far.

Laura Robson's week included her best career win in terms of ranking and her first WTA semifinal showing.

Barbora Zahlavova Strycova dropped her first final of the year to Sara Errani, who did not surrender a set all week.

Sara Errani became the first Italian to win four titles in a season, and raised her record on clay this year to 29-4.

Czechs Renata Voracova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova won their second WTA doubles title together.
