The rain delays began early in the day at the US Open on Tuesday, and it was a sign of things to come.
But the expert grounds crew dried the court as fast as possible and quarterfinal play got back underway.
Among those in the crowd for Victoria Azarenka's quarterfinal against Sam Stosur was Pippa Middleton.
Pippa Middleton is the younger sister of Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge.
Victoria Azarenka would end up defeating Sam Stosur in a thriller on Arthur Ashe Stadium, 61 46 76(5).
Victoria Azarenka not only reached her first US Open semifinal, she also secured her stay as World No.1.
Elsewhere, Julia Goerges and Kveta Peschke faced Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci in the doubles quarters.
Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci won in straight sets and will become No.1 and No.2 in doubles next Monday.
Back on Ashe, Marion Bartoli came out like a house on fire against Maria Sharapova, going ahead 4-0.
Maria Sharapova would get a reprieve, though - rain began falling again, giving her a chance to regroup.
There would be no play the rest of the day for the ladies, with all remaining matches pushed to Wednesday.
Victoria Azarenka did get a chance to get her picture with Pippa Middleton in the interview room, though.
