The doubles final featured Australian home favorites Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua.
Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci dropped the second set but came back to win in three, 62 36 62.
Barty was the youngest player in a Grand Slam final of any kind since Tatiana Golovin in 2004.
Errani and Vinci had been runners-up last year to Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva.
Errani and Vinci have now won three of the last four Grand Slams - missing only Wimbledon.
Including the three majors, Errani and Vinci now have 14 WTA doubles titles together.
Victoria Azarenka hit the practice courts with the singles final looming Saturday night.
Li Na hit the press room for one last time with the media before the big final on Saturday.
