Fans and media gathered on Sunday at Avenue San Pedro in San Pedro, a suburb of Monterrey...
About 300 or 400 people were estimated to have gathered at Avenue San Pedro for the special event.
Angelique Kerber, the World No.6, was interviewed by local media just ahead of the event.
Maria Kirilenko, ranked No.12 in the world, also had her turn being interviewed by local media.
From there the two WTA stars played mini-tennis on a special court set up on Avenue San Pedro.
It's rare for players ranked so high, but Kerber and Kirilenko have never played at the WTA level.
Both players have been playing the best tennis of their careers over the last year, however.
Kirilenko's No.12 ranking is actually her career-high - World No.6 Kerber's career-high is No.5.
Kerber and Kirilenko played for 15 minutes, including some tweeners and behind-the-back shots.
The two players welcomed fans onto the mini-tennis court and gave them some pointers, too.
They also signed balls and hit them into the crowd and answered questions from the press as well.
Kerber and Kirilenko also stopped off at a wine store to take photos and pick out some wine.
The wine company is a sponsor of the tournament and warmly welcomed the WTA stars to their store.
Both Kerber and Kirilenko would play their opening matches at the Monterrey Open on Tuesday.
Both won in straight sets, Kerber over Samantha Crawford and Kirilenko over Ximena Hermoso.
