The stars of the WTA - including Annika Beck - have been hitting the practice courts all week.
Another German, Justine Ozga, played Switzerland's Lara Michel in a qualifying thriller on Sunday.
Ozga is ranked one spot below Michel and was edged in a two-hour, 56-minute thriller, 64 67(10) 75.
Monday was very rainy in Nürnberg but the top seed, Jelena Jankovic, managed to get a hit in.
Jankovic came to Nürnberg off her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in three years at Roland Garros.
Unfortunately no main draw matches were completed on Monday - just the final round of qualifying.
But the blue skies came out on Tuesday, with 12 first round matches completed on the day.
Alexandra Cadantu was not among the winners, though, falling to the No.4 seed, Julia Goerges.
Goerges would contest her second round match on Wednesday against fellow German Andrea Petkovic.
And Petkovic would end up winning that match against her countrywoman and good friend, 61 75.
Jankovic completed her rain-suspended first round and won her second round too - all straight sets.
Play was underway, and over at the racquet stringer, business was booming...
Beck was also among Petkovic's victims, falling to the former World No.9 in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Polona Hercog had taken out the No.2 seed, Klara Zakopalova, en route to the quarters, but...
The Slovenian was stopped by No.6 seed Lucie Safarova in a tight three-setter, 76(5) 36 64.
