After weeks of build-up, Martina Hingis' doubles comeback began in Carlsbad on Wednesday night.
Hingis partnered Daniela Hantuchova to take on Julia Goerges and Darija Jurak in the first round.
And it was a very resonant performance - Hantuchova and Hingis beat Goerges and Jurak, 61 61.
Hingis is a crowd favorite wherever she goes but especially here, where she won twice in the '90s.
And the two WTA stars were a hit in the press room as well before and after the big match.
Hingis has actually been in tune with the tennis fashion world the last few years with Tonic...
Tonic by Martina Hingis is the Swiss Miss' clothing line, and she was promoting it in Carlsbad too.
A number of lucky fans have had the opportunity to meet the WTA legend at La Costa Resort & Spa.
The pair's quarterfinal match seemed to be going their way, as they built a hefty 64 30 lead.
Hantuchova and Hingis even came within two points of reaching the semis at 5-4 in the second set.
But Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears had other ideas - they came back to win it, 46 75 103.
But a loss to the Stanford champions wasn't the be all end all - the road continues in Toronto...
