Fernandez in 3r for first Top 20 win); first Top 100 finish
1996 - Reached first Tour singles final at Quebec City (l. to Raymond); also reached Grand Slam 3r for first time at US Open and QF at Essen (as a qualifier) and Birmingham; won first Tour doubles title at Auckland (w/Halard-Decugis); first Top 50 finish
1997 - In Fed Cup, scored career-best win, d. world No. 4 Sanchez-Vicario to lead Belgium past Spain in 1r
1998 - Qualified for five Tour events, including Roland Garros (reached 2r) and Wimbledon
1999 - Reached first Tour SF in two years at Antwerp (l. to No. 1 seed Pitkowski); qualified for Tokyo [Pan Pacific], l. 2r to world No. 15 Coetzer 75 third set; won ITF/Southampton-GBR, her first singles title in five years; retired during final of ITF/Bronx-USA vs. de Lone with pulled left thigh muscle
2000 - Reached second career Grand Slam 3r at Australian Open and reached 2r at other three Grand Slams; in doubles w/Van Roost, won Los Angeles and bronze medal at Sydney Olympics; also reached US Open SF and Australian Open QF and qualified for season-ending Championships (reaching SF); in Fed Cup SF, won doubles w/Van Roost in BelgiumÆs loss to USA (Van RoostÆs last career match)
2001 - Won fifth and biggest doubles title at Berlin (w/Shaughnessy); a week later in home country, won Antwerp doubles (w/Ruano Pascual); reached US Open doubles QF (w/Rubin) upsetting Williams/Williams (only their second loss in two years); captured 10th ITF singles title at ITF/Bolton-GBR; helped Belgium win its first Fed Cup title with three doubles victories in final rounds
2002 - First Top 100 finish in three years; winner of ITF/Minneapolis-USA and semifinalist at Hawaii (first Tour SF since 1999 Antwerp); qualified for Wimbledon, her first Grand Slam in a year-and-a-half; came closer than anyone to defeating eventual champion S. Williams, falling 76(5) 76(2) in 3r, leading 4-2 and 5-3 second set; in doubles, winner of Birmingham and ITF/Minneapolis (both w/Asagoe) and runner-up at Tokyo [Pan Pacific] (w/Vinci) and Sarasota (w/C. Martinez); represented Belgium in World Group 1r win over Australia and QF loss vs. Italy; reached US Open mixed doubles SF w/Koenig; singles ranking improved to No. 61 (September 16), her highest in five years
2003 - Sixth Top 100 finish; best singles result was QF at Leipzig as a qualifier (d. world No. 17 Shaughnessy in 1r for fourth Top 20 win; collected fifth the following week in Filderstadt qualifying - d. No. 17 Sußrez); also reached 3r at Birmingham and qualified for Charleston, Berlin, Rome and Los Angeles; collected eighth Tour doubles title, successfully defending Birmingham title (w/Tu); runner-up at Los Angeles (w/Bovina) and Quebec City (w/Tu); member of Belgium Fed Cup team that swept Austria 5-0 (1r) and Slovakia 5-0 (QF); in SF vs. the US, l. first rubber to Raymond, but rebounded to d. Shaughnessy in third, in the end l. to the US 4-1
2004 - On Tour, reached 2r five times, at Tokyo [Pan Pacific] (l. to No.9 Sugiyama), Antwerp (l. to No.19 Farina Elia in 3s), Wimbledon (l. to No.9 seed Suarez), US Open (l. to No.10 seed Zvonareva) and Hasselt (l. to No.21 Mag.Maleeva); reached five Tour doubles finals, winning at Antwerp (w/C.Black in first-time pairing); member of Belgian Fed Cup team that d. Croatia 3-2 in 1r (was 1-0, d. Kostanic), and that l. 3-2 to Spain (d. Ruano Pascual, l. to Medina Garrigues, l. to Ruano Pascual/Medina Garrigues w/Flipkens).
2005 - Season highlighted by winning 10th career Tour doubles title at Antwerp (w/Black), also solid play at Hasselt, reaching 2r in singles (as WC, d. Daniilidou in 1r; l. to Schruff), SF in doubles (as WC w/Clijsters; after SF loss, announced retirement from professional tennis); went 0-2 (l. to Davenport, V.Williams) during Belgium's 5-0 loss to United States in Fed Cup 1r; went 0-1 in singles, but teamed with Clijsters to win decisive doubles rubber in Belgium's 3-2 victory against Argentina in Fed Cup World Group I Playoffs.
