Coached by John Trump, former coach of Tour veteran Amy Frazier ... Turned pro after sophomore year of college (summer of 2001) ... Began playing at age 4 in Tiny Tots Program at Mid-Town Tennis Club (Chicago, Illinois, USA), and has trained there ever since (except in 1998 when she trained in Key Biscayne in junior year of high school) ... Father, Charles, is a consultant; mother, Elizabeth, works for United Airlines; has younger sister, Lily ... Chose Stanford over Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Duke in fall of 1999 ... Sánchez-Vicario in her last Tour match before retirement; l. to Clijsters) and reached first Grand Slam 4r at Wimbledon (d. Pierce en route; l. to Mauresmo); had first Top 20 win over No.14 Farina Elia (Montréal); also won first two ITF Circuit singles titles; made Top 100 debut on July 8 (after Wimbledon; rose from No.134 to No.91) and Top 50 debut on October 28 (after Luxembourg; rose from No.52 to No.47).

2003 - Second Top 50 finish; SF at Memphis (l. to Coetzer) and Québec City (l. to Sharapova) and QF at Auckland and Scottsdale; played all four Grand Slams in a season for first time, reaching 3r at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon (first and so far only majors to be seeded); notched three Top 20 wins during season, over No.20 Farina Elia (Memphis), No.12 Rubin (Scottsdale) and No.18 Shaughnessy (Rome).

2004 - Reached first (and so far only) Tour singles final of career at Vancouver (l. to Vaidisova); SF at Memphis (l. to Raymond) and QF at Cincinnati; on ITF Circuit, won one singles title and two doubles titles.

2005 - Reached SF at Birmingham (d. No.9 Molik en route for first Top 10 win; l. to Jankovic) and QF at Seoul; won first Tour title in doubles at Cincinnati (w/Spears); won two ITF Circuit singles titles.

2006 - Season highlighted by QF finishes at Hobart and Memphis; won second Tour doubles title of career at Québec City (w/Gullickson); also won one singles title and one doubles title on ITF Circuit; withdrew from Miami w/right ankle sprain.

2007 - Sixth straight Top 100 finish in season highlighted by QF finish at Memphis (d. No.3 seed Bartoli en route; l. to No.7 seed and eventual champion V.Williams) and second career Grand Slam 4r finish at Wimbledon (d. No.20 seed Bammer and No.9 seed Hingis en route, falling to No.31 seed Krajicek; win over No.11 Hingis was sixth career Top 20 win and first Grand Slam 4r also came at Wimbledon, in 2002); reached 3r once, at Indian Wells (l. to No.4 seed Petrova in 3s) and 2r four times, incl. Australian Open (l. to No.12 seed Chakvetadze in 3s) and US Open (l. to No.26 seed Mirza); fell 1r eight times, incl. Roland Garros (l. to No.5 seed Mauresmo) and in qualifying three times; won fourth career ITF Circuit doubles title at $75K ITF/Midland, MI-USA (w/Spears); surpassed $1 million in career prize money; withdrew from Cincinnati w/left foot injury and from Québec City w/right hip flexor injury.

2008 - Played Australian season, falling 1r at Auckland and Australian Open and in qualifying at Sydney, then won one singles title on ITF Circuit; did not play rest of season due to injuries (incl. left wrist injury that caused withdrawals from Indian Wells and Wimbledon).
