Began playing tennis at age 8...Coached by Valery Kovalyov, with whom she started playing tennis...Prefers hard courts...Father, Gennady, is director of a university; mother, Tatyana, is a teacher; has one brother, Nickolay...Graduated from high school in 1996...Favorite place to visit is Lake Kariba, between Zimbabwe and Zambia...Other sports interests include ice skating and skiing...Least favorite thing about being on the pro tour is packing and carrying bags...Favorites include the books When the Lion Feeds and The Burning Shore, the movie French Kiss and the actor William Baldwin.
