JANUARY - Fell in Auckland qualifying; won first Grand Slam title of any kind in Australian Open mixed doubles (w/Zimonjic); was China's third major title (Yan/Zi won Australian Open and Wimbledon titles in 2006).

FEBRUARY - Fell 1r at Doha (as qualifier, l. to Razzano in 3s); fell in Dubai qualifying.

MARCH - At Bangalore, fell 1r in singles (as qualifier, l. to Rodionova 46 76(2) 64, having led 64 20) but won 12th career Tour doubles title (w/Peng; d. Chan/Chuang in final).

APRIL - Fell in Amelia Island qualifying; reached 2r at Charleston (as qualifier, l. to No.13 seed Azarenka 76(4) 60, having led 5-3 first set); went 0-1 in China's Fed Cup World Group SF loss to Spain.

MAY - Played exclusively in doubles.

JUNE - Fell in Wimbledon qualifying.

2003 - Reached SF at Hyderabad w/T.Li and later won first Tour doubles title together at Vienna; after a SF appearance w/T.Li at Palermo, won back-to-back titles at Québec City and Pattaya City; won seven ITF Circuit doubles titles; qualified at US Open for Grand Slam debut.

2004 - Season highlighted by strong doubles play, incl. historic Olympic gold medal; made Wimbledon debut as qualifier, reaching 2r; also qualified at Amelia Island (l. 2r to Davenport), Gold Coast, Doha, Miami and Charleston (l. 1r at each); in doubles at Olympics (w/T.Li), d. No.2 seeds Martínez/Ruano Pascual 63 63 in final to win Olympic gold medal, China's first tennis medal; also w/T.Li, won title at Guangzhou; runners-up at Hyderabad and SF at Rome, Vienna, Beijing and Miami (ret. vs. Petrova/Shaughnessy after first set when T.Li suffered right knee sprain).

2005 - Season highlighted by first two Tour singles QF and win over S.Williams; QF at Hyderabad (l. to Groenefeld); as WC ranked No.127, repeated effort at Tier II Beijing, stunning No.9 S.Williams en route, falling to Kirilenko (prior to win over Williams, had never beaten a Top 40 player; was also first time since first pro match in 1995 that Williams lost to a non-Top 100 player); missed Wimbledon while competing in Chinese national championships; another impressive season in doubles (w/T.Li), winning sixth career Tour title at Estoril and reaching Hyderabad final; SF three times; on ITF Circuit, won 13th career doubles title (w/T.Li).

2006 - Captured first career Tour singles title at Tashkent (d. WC Tulyaganova 62 64 in final; had never been beyond a QF previously); fourth Chinese singles titlist in Tour history, after Li, Zheng and Yan; afterwards on October 9, surged from No.128 to No.81, a new career-high; reached seven singles 2r, incl. Roland Garros, Wimbledon and New Haven (d. No.8 Schnyder 61 63 for second career Top 10 win); 1r at Australian Open (l. to Mauresmo) and US Open; won seventh, eighth and ninth individual (and team) Tour doubles titles w/T.Li, at Pattaya City, Estoril and Guangzhou; 0-1 in China's 4-1 Fed Cup World Group I Play-off victory over Germany.

2007 - Strong season, particularly in doubles; won 10th and 11th career Tour doubles titles in back-to-back weeks at Tokyo [Japan Open] and Bangkok (both w/Yan); runner-up four times, at Charleston (w/Peng; d. Raymond/Stosur en route), Strasbourg (w/Molik), Eastbourne (w/Tu; d. Black/Huber en route) and Guangzhou (w/King); now 11-8 lifetime in Tour doubles finals; having spent only four weeks inside doubles Top 20 previously (consecutively from October 4 until October 31, 2004; peaked at No.18 two of those weeks), returned to Top 20 on August 6, 2007 and stayed inside through November 12 year-end rankings (15 weeks); best singles results were 2r at Auckland, Indian Wells and Guangzhou; fell 1r 12 times (incl. Australian Open and Roland Garros) and in Tour qualifying five times (incl. US Open); went 0-3 in China's 5-0 Fed Cup World Group 1r loss to Italy and 2-0 in China's 4-1 Fed Cup World Group Play-off win vs. Belgium.
