- Rain washed out the bulk of play on Monday at the Rogers Cup, but one night session match was able to finish. Sabine Lisicki beat Venus Williams, 6-0, 6-3, to make the second round. "Just a tough draw and bad luck," Venus said.

To me, I was just thinking that I needed to keep winning so I didn't go home. For me, to keep playing was easier."
