Sylvia Hanika did not go into her meeting with Martina Navratilova at the WTA Finals with a great deal of expectation. "Whatever you do," Hanika said to herself, "don't lose 6-0, 6-0."

This pessimistic approach was understandable given Navratilova's 27-match unbeaten streak heading into the final. And when Hanika quickly fell 6-1, 3-1 behind, win number 28 looked on its way.

However, as WTAFinals.com contributor Mark Hodgkinson recalls, somehow she turned the tide, recovering to shock the defending champion, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, and lift the biggest title of her career.
