Belinda Bencic was August's WTA Player Of The Month in every sense of the word.
Her run to the Toronto title was one of the most emphatic in recent memory, taking out four Top 10 players to capture the Rogers Cup. The Swiss Miss' momentum continued into Cincinnati, where she eliminated Stanford titlist Angelique Kerber before having to retire against Lucie Safarova in the round of 16. Her most notable win came in Canada where, from a set down, her thoughtful aggression and all-court craft helped hand World No.1 Serena Williams a second loss of the season in the semifinals.
"I try to always have a good tactical plan when I go to the court. I think it's my weapon," Bencic said after the match. "I may not have the most powerful game, but I try to find the weakness in the opponent's game."
For those reasons, Bencic has been named August's WTA Player Of The Month.
