August 2015 WTA Rising Star Of The Month Finalists:
Belinda Bencic: The youngest of this month's Rising Star cohort, Bencic has been the talk of the WTA tour this summer, handing World No.1 Serena Williams just her second loss of the season en route to winning her second - and biggest - WTA title of her career in Toronto. Now ranked just outside the Top 10, this generation's Swiss Miss rode an eight-match winning streak into Cincinnati before the heavy schedule caught up with her and she was forced to retire down a set to Lucie Safarova. With an all-court game influenced by Melanie Molitor (mother to former No.1 Martina Hingis), Bencic could be one to watch at this year's US Open.
Sloane Stephens: Stephens finally came good at a WTA singles tournament, capturing her first title at the Citi Open in Washington, DC. The American beat a pair of big hitters in 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova - the latter with the loss of just three games - in the final. Stephens then earned another Top 10 win at the Western & Southern Open against Carla Suárez Navarro, and pushed former No.1 Ana Ivanovic to three sets two rounds later. With a first WTA title under her belt, can Stephens surpass her career-best finish at her home major? It was in 2013 that she reached the fourth round, losing to eventual champion, Serena Williams.
Elina Svitolina: Ukraine's top ranked player reached two semifinals in August. The first was in the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, where she won a trio of hard-fought three-set matches before falling to Angelique Kerber, who went on to win the title. Svitolina next made waves in Cincinnati, upsetting French Open finalist Lucie Safarova and pushing Williams throughout two tight sets. Her good form has hardly gone unnoticed in August, as she earned a career-high ranking of No.15 after her run in Stanford.
