February 2015 WTA Rising Star Of The Month Finalists:
Karolina Pliskova: The 22-year-old Czech had quite the busy February, playing in four different countries. She began the month by leading the Czech Republic Fed Cup team to a win over Canada. She quickly flew to the BNP Paribas Fortis Diamond Games where she reached her second WTA Premier semifinal of 2015, upsetting Lucie Safarova in the quarterfinals. She went one step better the following week at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, upsetting Ana Ivanovic and Safarova again en route to the first WTA Premier 5 final of her career. Her recent play has vaulted her to No.4 on the Road to Singapore leaderboard.
Garbiñe Muguruza: Muguruza also began her February with an impressive Fed Cup win over Simona Halep. At the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, the 21-year-old Spaniard upset Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska and Carla Suárez Navarro on her way to her first career WTA Premier 5 semifinal before falling to Karolina Pliskova in a tight 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 loss. The Dubai run propelled Muguruza to equal her career-high ranking of No.20.
Anna Schmiedlova: Twenty-year-old Slovak Anna Schmiedlova had a breakout February. At the Rio Open, she cruised through her first three matches, only dropping nine games. In the semifinals, she upset second seed Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets to make the final, where she fell to top seed Sara Errani. It was a week of firsts for Schmiedlova, who had never been to the quarterfinals of a WTA event. She currently sits at No.56 in the rankings, only one spot off her career-high ranking.
