Serena Williams captured her third straight Stanford title and for that reason, she has been named WTA Player Of The Month for July.

The Bank of the West Classic was Serena Williams' first tournament since Wimbledon. Some would think she might be rusty, but that was clearly not the case for the World No.1

Williams entered Stanford a two-time champion (2011 and 2012) and was looking for her third straight Bank of the West Classic title.

After an easy opening round match, Williams played the WTA match-win leader Ana Ivanovic in a three set battle, which she eventually prevailed, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Williams then defeated Andrea Petkovic in straight sets for a place in the final versus fellow Top 10er Angelique Kerber. Williams would rally from an early 5-1 deficit to edge Kerber 7-6(1), 6-3.

Williams not only won her third straight Bank Of The West Classic title, but also her fourth WTA title of the year, more than anyone else on the tour. It was the 61st WTA title of the World No.1's legendary career.

For that reason, Williams has been named the WTA Player Of The Month for July.

What were her thoughts on winning again?

"I feel really great. This tournament has always been a special place for me."

Williams also jumped two spots to fourth place on the Road To Singapore leaderboard for the season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
