Nineteen-year-old Madison Keys began her 2015 season at the Brisbane International, upsetting 2014 Australian Open finalist Dominika Cibulkova, and then defeating two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova the following week at the Apia International Sydney.

Keys carried that momentum into the Australian Open, where she defeated three Top 30 players, Casey Dellacqua, Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams, en route to her first Grand Slam semifinal. The young American would eventually fall to World No.1 Serena Williams in the semifinals. Following the Australian Open she rose to a career-high ranking of World No.20.

For that reason she has been named January's WTA Rising Star Of The Month.

Following her Australian Open semifinal loss to Serena Williams the current World No.1 had very high praise for Keys.

"She's so awesome, she's so positive, just a great player. It was an honor for me to play someone who will be ranked No.1 in the future."
