TOKYO, Japan - Wang Qiang inflicted a rapid defeat on WTA World No.15 Kristina Mladenovic at the Toray Pan-Pacific Open, beating her 6-0, 6-0 in just 48 minutes.

After a strong start to the season, the Frenchwoman has been experiencing a lull in form in recent weeks, losing in the first round in straight sets to Monica Niculescu at the US Open, Timea Babos in Connecticut, Daria Gavrilova in Cincinnati, and Barbora Strycova at the Canadian Open.

She struggled from the start against Wang, who never looked like losing her early momentum and cruised into the next round.

Earlier on Center Court, Magda Linette beat Kateryna Bondarenko 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, while Kurumi Nara beat Yulia Putintseva 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Elsewhere, Jana Cepelova of Slovakia beat Duan Ying-Ying 7-5, 7-6(4), Hsieh Su-Wei beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 6-3 and Madison Brengle came out on top against compatriot Danielle Collins, 6-4, 6-1.
