The latest rankings update makes happy reading for two home players who have impressed at the start of the US Open Series. Bank of the West Classic champion Madison Keys moved up four places to No.17, while compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe, who was beaten in the Stanford final, matches Keys' jump to also re-enter the WTA Top 20.

Keys' title was the American's first in 14 months, while Vandeweghe's form follows her run to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last month and also the last eight in both Madrid and Birmingham this year. With little other movement in the upper reaches of the rankings - Karolina Pliskova retaining top spot - interest turns further down the leaderboard. Making her return after eights weeks off, Maria Sharapova climbs into the Top 150, the Russian jumping 22 places to WTA World No.149.

Here are the other most notable WTA Rankings movers this week:

Julia Goerges (+5, No.40 to No.35): The German maintains her momentum following her fine recent form. Finalist at Citi Open in Washington, as well as at Mallorca and Bucharest over the summer.

Catherine Bellis (+8, No.44 to No.36): The American was one of many home players to impress at Stanford last week, beating Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova en route to the semi-final. That followed a semi-final in Mallorca and quarterfinals in Dubai and Rabat this year.

Ekaterina Makarova (+16, No.58 to No.42): Clinched the title in Washington after making it past Simona Halep and Goerges. The Russian has also made the last 16 in Rome, Dubai and at the Australian Open this year.

Andrea Petkovic (+15, No.102 to No.87): The German re-entered the Top 100, with a semifinal in Washington, showing signs of rediscovering her best form as she overcame Canadian pair Eugenie Bouchard and Bianca Andreescu.

Sabine Lisicki (+31, No.190 to No.159): Out of the Top 100 since January after suffering with a shoulder injury, the German reached her second quarterfinal of the year to make her biggest rankings jump in six years.
