Belinda Bencic and Julia Goerges are level at a win apiece from their previous encounters. Goerges won in straight sets at the Australian Open in 2015 before Bencic gained revenge in Stuttgart later the same year.

Julia Goerges is aiming for her second WTA title of 2018, having won in Auckland at the start of the year. That success was her fifth career title. She also made the final in Charleston this year, losing to Kiki Bertens.

This year is Julia Goerges' second final in Luxembourg, the German losing the 2010 showpiece to Roberta Vinci.

Belinda Bencic is playing in a tournament beyond the quarterfinal stage for the first time this year. The Swiss is going for her third career WTA title, having previously prevailed in Eastbourne and Toronto in 2015.

Julia Goerges has dropped two sets en route to the final this week, being taken the distance by Donna Vekic in the last eight and again by Eugenie Bouchard in the semifinal.

The semi-final three-setter against Dayana Yastremska was the first time Belinda Bencic had dropped a set this week.

The last Swiss winner of the tournament came nine years ago, Timea Bacsinszky beating German Sabine Lisicki in straight sets in 2009.

Julia Goerges is aiming to become the third German winner of the event in the last four years, following victories for compatriots Annika Beck in 2014 and Carina Witthoeft last year.
