Karolina Pliskova leads her head-to-head against Caroline Garcia 3-2, and has won their two most recent meetings - in Doha and Roland Garros last year - in straight sets. The Frenchwoman's pair of wins came at Madrid 2015 and the 2016 Fed Cup final.

Caroline Garcia is competing in her first final since completing the Asian double of titles in Wuhan and Beijing last October. The 24-year-old is bidding to lift her sixth career trophy; thus far, she has a 5-2 record in finals, with the only two losses coming to Timea Bacsinszky in Acapulco and Monterrey in 2015. Since then, she has won four title rounds in a row.

Karolina Pliskova is looking to pick up her 12th career title and third of the year. The Czech is also on a long winning streak in finals, having triumphed in her past five - all in straight sets - stretching back to her defeat in the 2016 US Open final at the hands of Angelique Kerber.

This is the third final between No.1 and No.2 seeds in 2018. On both previous occasions - Auckland, where Julia Goerges defeated Caroline Wozniacki, and the Australian Open, where Wozniacki defeated Simona Halep - the No.2 seed prevailed.
