Serena Williams will have a starring role in one of the biggest night's in fashion next year, as the 23-time Grand Slam champion was announced as a co-chair for the 2019 Met Gala, themed "Camp: Notes on Fashion" this week.

She will join Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Gucci’s Alessandro Michele in New York City on Monday, May 6 for the 71st anniversary of the Met Gala.

The WTA legend has been a frequent attendee of the star-studded night in years past, including a high-profile cameo on the 2017 red carpet with then-fiancé Alexis Ohanian while pregnant with her first child, daughter Alexis Olympia

A trend-setter in tennis fashion as well, the 23-time major champion celebrated the launch of her own self-titled clothing line in May.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit.

Each year's event celebrates the theme of that year's exhibition, and it is customary for attendees to match their attire for the event around the theme.
