NEW YORK, NY, USA - No.13 seeds Ashleigh Barty, CoCo Vandeweghe took down the No.3 seeds Andrea Sestini-Hlavackova Barbora Strycova in straight sets to reach the US Open quarterfinals - their best Grand Slam result as a duo this year.

Barty and Vandeweghe were able to get ahead early in both sets and needed one hour and 13 minutes to handle the Czech’s resistance and notch the 6-3, 6-3 victory.

“I’m glad we got the job done in two sets, which is what we needed to do because it was so hot out there,” Vandeweghe joked afterwards. “[Ashleigh and I] play well together, when we do play together which is few and far between it feels like. But it’s always great to play with a friend out here.”

Also into the quarterfinals are No.6 seeds Lucie Hradecka and Ekaterina Makarova, who fought back from a break down in the first set to defeat Magda Linette and Ajla Tomljanovic, 6-4, 6-4.

“Today was a very good match for us despite the weather, it was very hot and humid,” Makarova said. “They were big servers, and especially Tomljanovic is a big hitter as well. But we stayed aggressive with our game, our serves, and this worked very good today.”

The win earns them a matchup with one of the pre-tournament favorites, No.2 seeds Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, who are going for their second Grand Slam of the season after winning at the Australian Open.

“It’s a very tough opponent for us in the next round, but it’s a quarterfinal of a Grand Slam so of course it’s tough,” Hradecka acknowledged. “We played against them last week and beat them, but this next match will be a different match. We just have to stay with our game, be concentrated on our serves and be aggressive waiting for our chances.”

Joining them in the quarterfinals are Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Anastasija Sevastova, who defeated Caroline Dolehide Christina McHale 6-4, 6-3, and the No.7 seeds Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs, edged past Hsieh Su-Wei and Aryna Sabalenka, 7-5, 6-4.
