2015 runner-up Belinda Bencic, playing her second tournament back after being sidelined since March with a stress fracture in her foot, resumes an old junior rivalry with fellow 21-year-old Veronika Kudermetova today. The Swiss former World No.7 dominated the head-to-head in those days, winning all three of their meetings in 2012-13, twice in finals, for the loss of just one set.

No.1 seed CoCo Vandeweghe's only previous meeting with Arantxa Rus also took place in 's-Hertogenbosch, seven years ago in the final round of qualifying. The Dutch player was coming off a career-best win over Kim Clijsters at Roland Garros, and defeated the 19-year-old future two-time champion - who was playing her third ever tournament on grass - 6-4, 6-4.

30-year-old wildcard Bibiane Schoofs is playing only her second WTA main draw - seven years after the first. In 2011, the Dutch player shot up from No.488 to No.160, with her career year culminating in a quarterfinal run from qualifying on her WTA debut in Luxembourg - including wins over Angelique Kerber and Yulia Putintseva. But injuries stalled her career, and only this year has Schoofs returned to the Top 200. This week, an opening win over Carina Witthoeft meant that she is still yet to lose a WTA first-round match.

No.6 seed Alison Van Uytvanck's second-round match against Viktoria Kuzmova reprises their semifinal this year in Budapest, their only previous meeting. The Belgian won that 6-4, 6-2 over Kuzmova, who had reached the last four for the first time in a WTA event, and went on to win her second career title.
