BIRMINGHAM, UK - World No.4 Elina Svitolina is the latest big name to sign up to the player field at this year’s Nature Valley Classic, which gets underway in a little over two weeks’ time at the Edgbaston Priory Club.

Svitolina has been granted a wildcard into the 32-player main draw and will join reigning Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza, British No.1 Johanna Konta, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, 2018 Roland Garros semifinalist Madison Keys and a host of other tennis stars at one of the most prestigious tournaments in the lead-up to Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old Ukrainian has enjoyed an outstanding season so far and will head to Birmingham having already won big titles in Brisbane, Dubai and most recently in Rome in May. She is widely being touted as a threat for Wimbledon and could begin her charge at the Nature Valley Classic, where Kvitova is defending champion.

“I’m so happy to be coming to Birmingham again,” said Svitolina. “It’s the perfect place to get matches on grass ahead of Wimbledon but it has a very strong line-up of players this year so I know how tough the competition will be. I’m very happy to be part of that.”

Nature Valley Classic Tournament Director Patrick Hughesman said: “Elina has had a great year so far and it’s exciting to add another big name to what is already a stellar line-up of players at the Nature Valley Classic. The courts are looking fantastic, everything is in place and we’re ready to go for what we know is going to be one of the most special tournaments in the history of this event.”

The Nature Valley Classic takes places from June 18-24.
