April 2018 WTA Breakthrough of the Month Finalists
Ana Bogdan: The 25-year-old Romanian recently made her Top 100 debut, and she showed some of the form that took her there in April.
Competing in her first two tournament since January's Taiwan Open, Bogdan made back-to-back semifinals on two different surfaces in Monterrey and Bogotá, seeing her campaigns stopped only by the eventual champion each time.
In Monterrey, she scored a win over March's Breakthrough Player of the Month Danielle Collins before losing to top sed Garbiñe Muguruza on hard courts, while also posting a trio of victories at the Claro Open Colsanitas on clay.
In the Colombian capital, she defeated former champion and home favorite Mariana Duque-Mariño, Anna Blinkova and Daniela Seguel before being ousted by the other eventual champion, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
Bernarda Pera: On Charleston's green clay, American Bernarda Pera checked off another box in her year of firsts, as she made the first quarterfinal of her career at the WTA Premier-level event.
The 23-year-old entered the week as the World No.101, but scored wins over former finalist Jana Cepelova, rising teenager sensation Dayana Yastremska and former French Open finalist Sara Errani to reach the last eight and secure her Top 100 debut.
In the quarterfinals, Pera gave compatriot and No.7 seed Madison Keys all she could handle in a marathon encounter, before eventually falling 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5 despite leading by a break in the the third set.

"I'm a little relieved that I finally cracked Top 100, but I knew I was going to do it," Pera said after defeat in Charleston. "So I have to set new goals now."
Marta Kostyuk: The 15-year-old Ukrainian sensation became the youngest player since Martina Hingis in 1994 to win a first round match in Stuttgart with a straight sets victory over Antonia Lottner in the first round at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Kostyuk also defeated top seed Alizé Cornet in the final qualifying round for her second-best victory in terms of ranking this year, setting up her first WTA main draw win against the German wildcard.
In the first Premier-level event of her career, Kostyuk later pushed Caroline Garcia all the way in their second round clash, but the Frenchwoman came through, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
In this week's rankings, Kostyuk rose 24 spots to World No.134, and distanced herself even further from the two other players born in 2002 in the Top 500, Whitney Osuigwe at No.473 and Naomi Cheong at No.493.
