World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki's first match since being crowned Australian Open champion will be against 16-year-old Anastasia Potapova. The wildcard has had a standout junior career: this time almost exactly three years ago, she won Les Petits As in Tarbes, France, the premier U14 international tournament; in 2016, she took the Wimbledon girls' title to become junior World No.1. One year after that, Potapova came through Wimbledon qualifying to make her first senior Slam main draw - and on Tuesday, she scored her first WTA main draw win, and first Top 50 win, by beating Tatjana Maria 6-2, 6-4.

Roberta Vinci, the 2016 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy champion, is now a qualifier ranked No.147, and the final match of her career - which the Italian has announced will take place at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in May - is just a few months away. However, the 2015 US Open runner-up holds a 3-0 head-to-head lead against her opponent today, No.5 seed Julia Goerges, having beaten the German on indoor hard courts in the 2010 Luxembourg final 6-3, 6-4; on outdoor hard courts in the first round of Toronto in 2013, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; and on clay in the second round of Stüttgart in 2016, 6-3, 6-4.

Defending champion and No.4 seed Kristina Mladenovic is seeking to snap her 15-match losing streak today against Dominika Cibulkova. Mladenovic trails the Slovak 1-5 in the head-to-head - though her sole victory was their most recent meeting in the first round of the Australian Open in 2016, won by the Frenchwoman 6-3, 6-4. Today will be their first indoor hard court encounter.
