ZHENGZHOU, China - Three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber has taken a wildcard into next week's inaugural ICBC Credit Card Zhengzhou Open, the tournament announced today.
The German former World No.1 will seek to snap a four-match losing streak stretching back to the end of her Wimbledon title defence in the second round this year at the hands of Lauren Davis. "It's always very special to be part of a brand new event and see a new city," said Kerber in a statement. "I'm really excited. I know Zhengzhou is going to be a wonderful new addition to the WTA Tour, especially coming at the start of the Asian Swing."

"We are very happy to have a Grand Slam champion in Angelique Kerber joining the field of players in Zhengzhou," said co-tournament director Rong Chang'an. "We hope she enjoys her stay here and gets the opportunity to experience some of the delights that the city has to offer."
Kerber will join a strong field in the brand new Premier-level tournament that also includes three Top 10 players in Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and Kiki Bertens, as well as reigning Wuhan champion Aryna Sabalenka, former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko and local favorite and San Jose champion Zheng Saisai.
