STRASBOURG, France - No.4 seed Caroline Garcia needed to work overtime on Wednesday to keep her camapaign at the Internationaux de Strasbourg alive.

After splitting sets with American Shelby Rogers on Monday, Garcia returned to the court two days later to finish off her first-round encounter with the American early in the day, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, before returning to court to oust Sweden's Rebecca Peterson, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals. 

"I feel good. This morning, I was ready for a long day," Garcia said after the matches. "I was just focused on my first match -- my last set, actually. I'm very happy with the way we managed the day at the office today...without playing, it's always tough to manage.

Today, I did I good job, I had a lot of energy, and I was clear in my mind with what I wanted to do. I'm very happy with these two wins."

Rain pushed back the home favorite's match schedule by two days, but that didn't prevent the former World No.4 from booking her place in the last eight, where she'll face debutant Ukrainian teenager Marta Kostyuk. 

"She's a great young player, very talented, and she did a great job on tour last year," Garcia said of the Ukrainian. "She had a couple of months that were more difficult, but she's very young and bringing a lot of energy on court.

"I will try to put my game on, and keep improving from my match today."

Garcia was pushed to the brink against Rogers, finding herself two games from defeat on Monday in the opening round against the American, who was contesting just the third WTA-level tournament of her comeback from a year-long knee injury.

Rogers' big-hitting groundstrokes found their mark for much of the opening set, as she rode an early break through to a one-set lead, and rallied to restore parity from a 4-0 deficit in the second set. 

The Frenchwoman was quick off the mark upon resumption, however, as she won the first three games on Wednesday, but needed to hold off another rally from the American to capture the last three games of the decider.

Her momentum continued into her second match, as she raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, and never trailed for the duration.
