17-year-old wildcard Maria Camila Osorio Serrano's first WTA quarterfinal is also the 16th time in 22 editions of Bogota that a home player has made the last eight. The Colombian World No.438 is the lowest-ranked WTA quarterfinalist of 2019 so far; a former junior World No.4, Osorio Serrano was the Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist and ITF Junior Masters runner-up last year, and reached her first ITF W25 final in Norman, Oklahoma last November.

Osorio Serrano has played fellow 17-year-old Amanda Anisimova three times at junior level, all also on clay, with the American winning in straight sets each time - including a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the third round of the 2017 Roland Garros girls' competition.

Beatriz Haddad Maia is 1-0 against Sara Sorribes Tormo, having defeated the Spaniard 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of Seoul in 2017 en route to her sole previous career final. On the comeback from a back injury that caused her to fall out of the Top 200 last year, Haddad Maia has compiled an 18-6 record in 2019 and has reached her second quarterfinal of the year as a qualifier following Acapulco.

2012 champion and 2017-18 runner-up Lara Arruabarrena has had outsize success in Bogota, with her 22 career wins in the Colombian capital over triple the amount of wins she has compiled in any other tournament. A return to Bogota has helped the Spaniard turn around a subpar start to the year: she had been just 3-11 in 2019 before this week, including 0-5 in WTA main draws, but has now reached her first quarterfinal since this event last year.

No.5 seed Tamara Zidansek is the highest-ranked remaining player, and will be going for her third career semifinal and second of 2019 following Hua Hin. Meanwhile, lucky loser and former World No.5 Sara Errani is aiming to make her first WTA semifinal since Tianjin 2017, and No.7 seed Sara Sorribes Tormo will bid to make her third career semifinal - with both previous last-four runs coming in 2017, in Bogota and Gstaad.

Alongside Osorio Serrano, Vanderbilt University graduate Astra Sharma is the second player making her WTA quarterfinal debut in Bogota this week.
