She has won eight of her last 11 matches against Czech opponents.

Karolina Pliskova has won her last four matches against Swiss players, including three against Timea Bacsinszky.

She has twice reached the semifinals at Indian Wells only to lose tight matches to Victoria Azarenka in 2016 and Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2017.

Venus Williams is seeking to reach her fourth Indian Wells semifinal.

Angelique Kerber fell at the quarterfinal stage of this competition last year against Daria Kasatkina, who went on to beat Venus in the final four.

The German is a two-time Indian Wells semifinalist - but has not gone so far since 2013.

Kerber leads the head-to-head against Venus 5-3, with the last meeting in Sydney last year.

Venus has the edge on hard courts, however, with a 3-2 lead on the surface.
